A highlight in the area of retail design

The customers of Bischofberger Optik have plenty to discover in a beautiful historical half-timbered house in Winterthur. The sales floor of 140 m² is divided across two levels. On the ground floor, customers find sunglasses, children’s glasses and corrective lenses. The upper floor holds the refraction and optometrics area.

Task

The transfer to Roger Frischknecht as the new owner was to be reflected in the overall appearance of the store as well. It was to be presented in high value, modern and with a personal reference, highlighting the character of the old half-timbered house. This means that the exposed oak timber structure was to be appropriately emphasised and framed with a modern store design.

Challenge

The challenge in this optician’s store design was in combining the flair of the half-timbered building with the modern material and colour elements into a fluent and balanced overall appearance without reducing the effect of the timber structure.

The natural stone wall and smoked glass were able to uniquely highlight the oak timber structure.

It forms the style highlight in the optician’s store design.

– Optik Bischofberger – a highlight and eye-catcher in the area of store design, architecture and retail design.

Solution

The store design concept stands out with its transparency. The façade was designed to be open. The large floor-depth shop windows offer passers-by and customers views into the modern store with its attractive interior design. The sunglasses area is located in the entrance area. The glasses are presented in front of a natural stone wall in both a rustic and modern manner.

Casual, on “smoked” glass shelves that have been installed between full-height brass rods in a nearly floating manner. Consulting takes place on a solid oak standing table. The solid cash desk block presents itself distinctively. It is a simple cube, also made of light oak with a rear wall design in black MDF.

One step further

Two steps take the customer to the upper level of the ground floor. The corrective lenses are placed here, along with the children’s glasses area – presented on glass shelves as well. The areas are divided by transparent curtain segments that are harmoniously embedded into the optician’s store design.
Consulting takes place on table units in light oak. Stylish bucket seats give this area its usual light appearance and transparency. Lighting with a great effect is ensured by large black desk lamps in a classical design.

Beyond that, this level offers a comfortable lounge area with high-pile carpets and comfortable brown leather armchairs. The black floor in a slate look adds a calm frame to the entire situation. The upper floor is accessed via a curved staircase, also made of solid oak. An attractive waiting area and the refraction rooms are located there next to the sports glasses.
